A Thought by Luke Cowling
I had always been interested by the concept of Audiobooks. For the longest time I was curious as to what the draw was. Why listen to a book, when you can simply read it for yourself? And that's where I left my opinion on the concept for a very long time. Ignorant, I know. I was young, okay?
But since then, my commute has expanded and my down time dramatically lowered, and it is this problem that I discovered my instant love for Audiobooks. Their availability as background noise whilst I do the most menial of tasks, like laundry, driving, etc, has made my life dramatically more enjoyable.
The theatrics of a read performance of a written works. The modern availability is methods to listen. The price point of Audibook subscriptions. The medium has evolved dramatically over a short amount of time, or perhaps it's my ignorance that has changed in a short amount of time, who knows.
The point I'm trying to cement here, is that I would recommend everyone invest in some kind of Audiobook streaming service. You will not regret it, the pros list of them is a mile long, and has been said in much better ways than I could articulate, but I suppose I'm trying to reach those of you who are on the fence. I was once like you, but I gave the services a short and simply put, I regret not investing in Audiobooks years and years ago.
I've read A Song of Ice and Fire in it's entirety more than once, and enjoyed it thoroughly every time. The series is a classic, and will be forever. But listening to the books on tape has changed the series somehow, for myself. Though exactly how I could not put my finger on. It brings the world building by Martin to new heights, somehow.
